Next of Kin is a musical father/daughter-in-law duo with members Alan Mickelson and Marla (Lou) Mickelson who really are next of kin. Next of Kin have been playing as a family band since 2014, performing on average 80 shows a year. Next of Kin present tight harmonies, strong melodies, and memorable performances of songs causing listeners to pause and just enjoy! Lou plays guitar and mandolin while Alan plays an electric upright bass. Both share lead and harmony vocals. Next of Kin may be found at many different venues in the Willamette Valley, but locally at the Oregon Garden Fireside Lounge in Silverton as resident performers several times a month.
As a family-friendly show, Next of Kin has performed at many community festivals and fund-raising events as well as clubs and county fairs. Audiences will enjoy acoustic arrangements of classic Country and Western tunes along with other favorites from the 20's through today. With songs from artists like Merle Haggard, Patsy Cline, Waylon Jennings, Anny Murray, Don Gibson, Emmylou Harris, and Linda Ronstadt just to name a few, their show is sure to bring smiles and enjoyment to the young and young at heart!
